ELL Leveled Reader Packs are the perfect ELL companion for our existing leveled books. Each pack provides the content-based vocabulary, grammar, and writing support English language learners need in order to access narrative and informational text and become successful readers as they acquire English language skills. With a multiday format and ready-made practice pages and assessments, each pack includes multiple opportunities to expand students' vocabulary and grammar knowledge and target oral language development.
Designed for all teachers of ELLs (English language learners), including mainstream classroom teachers with little or no experience teaching ELLs, the ELL Leveled Reader packs are a comprehensive resource for scaffolding reading instruction for ELLs at all proficiency levels.
Each pack supports ELLs' need for vocabulary, grammar, and writing instruction in order to build English language listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Teachers can follow the lesson plan step-by-step and day-by-day, or they can select individual vocabulary, grammar, writing, or assessment materials to support a variety of teaching scenarios.
Each pack contains a multiday lesson plan, additional teacher reference resources, and student resources.
A multiday lesson plan provides students with multiple exposures to each text. Vocabulary and grammar is recycled throughout the lesson plan; multiple exposures lead to stronger language acquisition and progress.
Icons throughout the lesson plan identify opportunities for students to interact with each other in paired oral language discussions, to explain or justify their answers, to practice the lesson's grammar focus and to return to the text to find specific information.
Teachers select ELL Leveled Reader Packs based on their students' grade and language proficiency levels. A variety of titles are available across the content areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, and basic social and instructional language.
Many of the packs are suitable for use at multiple grades and language levels. This provides teachers with flexibility in forming guided reading groups.
Each pack contains a multiday lesson plan with preparation notes.
The lesson plan follows the same pattern on each day of instruction. Each day of instruction includes an instructional focus, reading focus, and vocabulary focus. Teachers simply follow the step-by-step directions for each section.
* WIDA and Arizona have a 6th category called Reaching or Proficient. This category is not a language proficiency level,
but rather a culminating stage at which a language learner is able to access grade-level academic content without language support.
